Brighton and Presqu'ile Provincial Park
Brighton is one of the fastest growing towns in Ontario, with attractive housing developments both on and near the water. With its charming 19th century architecture, the town retains the spirit of the early founders who established some of the finest apple orchards in Canada. In summer, the town is at its busiest with tourists, campers and cottagers.
People visit the area to fish Presqu'ile Bay for trophy walleye and pike or alternatively, head out into Lake Ontario for championship salmon and trout fishing. Boaters can enjoy shallow and deep water boating.
Visit Proctor House Museum, said to be haunted by the Nix ghost, and see the 'widows walk' with views of the Bay, or visit Memory Junction with its railway memorabilia. Stroll along the streets and be delighted by the many architectural gems. Savour the delights at some of the area's best eating spots. Stop off at Gosport and pick up some freshly caught fish at the fisheries. Come to the Saturday morning farmers' market and enjoy the fresh produce, or visit the many antique and craft stores that are sure to delight you with their unusual items. Visit the Applefest in September, when Brighton really pulls out all the stops to celebrate the harvesting of the apples in grand style!
In Brighton you'll find one of nature's outstanding gifts... Presqu'ile Provincial Park. In summer there are swimming, camping, windsurfing, diving, nature programs... a host of activities for the day tripper or camper, including a Heritage Centre at the oldest operating lighthouse on the north shore of Lake Ontario. Each spring tens of thousands of ducks rest here on their journey further north. As well, more than 300 bird species make Presqu'ile a "hot spot" for birders. In the winter there are cross-country skiing trails for the enthusiast. Elsewhere along the Lake Ontario shore, Brighton offers superb camping and other family attractions, Speedway Park, mini-golf & go-kart's, botanical gardens and numerous garden centres to name a few.
