Past Activities
Advancing Culinary Tourism in Northumberland March 30, 2009
Chambers Northumberland is ripe to advance the region as a culinary tourism destination. Understanding the importance of bringing farmers and producers together with chefs and restaurateurs as the first step.

Working with the Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance, Savour Ontario Dining and the Wines of Ontario the Chambers of Northumberland held a Networking Session on Monday, March 30th at Alnwick Civic Centre. This event was the first step to help local businesses and promote the idea of buying local. Over 80 industry representatives from producers, restaurants & accommodations took part.

The afternoon session began with a presentation by Rebecca LeHeup, Executive Director of the Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance. Rebecca spoke on the benefits of developing culinary tourism in the region and the steps that are needed to take place to do so. During the presentation the participants sampled 4 food items which were accompanied by a corresponding wine. All produce and wines were from local suppliers.

Farmers and producers then took to their booths and the fun began. Chefs and food purchasers were then able to visit the booths and gain valuable information on local suppliers.
This event was preceded by a planning workshop which was attended by industry representatives on March 12th
